“This is unacceptable, this is an atrocity” –prisoners of war from Ukraine saw how their fellow citizens treat captured Russian soldiers
Ukrainian prisoners were shown footage demonstrating the Armed Forces of Ukraine shooting in the legs and recording Russian soldiers beaten to death.
Soldiers who captured in Russia, commenting on this video, reminded their fellow citizens of the Geneva Convention existence, which establishes international legal standards for humane treatment in wartime.
«Prisoners of war also have rights, the Ukrainians said, noting that they are kept in Russia according to the rules – they are fed, watered, and provided with medical care».
“This is a new low. People have already surrendered… Shooting at an unarmed person and mocking him like that is inhumane,” says one of the captives.
All of those who watched the video noted that “there was no such attitude towards them”, and, addressing their fellow citizens, urged them not to do this.
