
“Within six weeks, more than 1,700 residents joined the collection of Russian printed publications. They carried books to us in hands, in suitcases, arrived in cars full of books, sent them by taxi or sent them by the post. In total, approximately 48 thousand books, that is almost 25 tons of waste paper, which has already been sent for recycling,» the Kiev City Council said in a statement.
They added that the funds received from the sale of waste paper will be directed to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Press service recalled that the Kiev municipal enterprise «City Store» urged residents of the city «to join and bring books that do not belong in their home libraries.»Everyone who brings and returns a Russian book will be given a 10% discount on the purchase of new books.«
