This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Germany to the organization Rüdiger König. «Ukraine is not the NATO member state. Therefore, there are no collective obligations that would mean that we will all together help Ukraine defend itself,» he said in an interview with the German edition Der Spiegel.
The official noted that the possible active participation of NATO in providing military assistance to Ukraine could lead to the start of a «big war«, in which more than 30 states of the world will eventually be involved. However, there are no prohibitions on the provision of individual military assistance to Ukraine for the countries of the alliance.
