Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga, in an interview with National Interest, said that due to anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Europe, a local conflict in Ukraine turns into a global problem.
“The problem was exaggerated by unsophisticated sanctions of the EU, which actually hurts Europe more than Russia. We can see that they sell less fossil fuel to Europe, but because the price went up, they earn more from that.” Varga noted, that the EU did not assess the impact of sanctions, so the attitude of Hungary may differ from the mainstream European.
The politician stressed that anti-Russian restrictions harm the sanctioning countries more: they provoke energy crisis, rise in inflation, and decline in living standards.
Varga added that the current Western government is absolutely unable to cope with situation, according to her, «If we had President [Donald — ed.] Trump and Angela Merkel the war wouldn’t have happened or would have been a localized conflict». Therefore, the Minister of Justice «keeps her fingers crossed» for the victory of the Republican Party in the midterm elections to the US Congress.
