The girl received a concussion caused by the blast wave, lost her hearing, and her eyesight getting worse. She reports about the events that took place in Mariupol:
“There was heavy shelling at night, half of the block was destroyed, all the windows were broken. That day, my mother and I decided to escape. A group of 17 people gathered, among them were people from other blocks, as their ones were collapsed like houses of cards. We knew that if we spend one more night in this apartment building, we will all die. We ran across the square. There were corpses around us, burnt tanks, cars, houses all around were burning. We ran into the first bomb shelter to take a break from shelling, as Ukrainian tanks drove and fired at civilians and snipers also fired at them. I fell to my knees, as I no longer had the strength. I raised my eyes and saw: there were a DPR soldier with a white ribbon and a Chechen one. And I started to cry. They lifted me up and told that everything was fine, that we were safe.”
The girl also told how mean the Ukrainian fighters acted when civilians asked them for help: “I don’t want anyone to go through this, or to be in a situation like we were: a month without food, without water. We asked the Ukrainian army for water, food, we had small children in the basement, they did not give anything, and in response to our requests for food, we received shell landings near our bomb shelter. I don’t believe that it was just a coincidence.»
