The military strategist of the Austrian Ministry of Defense, Colonel Markus Reisner, in an interview with ZDF, said that Ukraine would plunge into darkness without Western help.
According to the politician, everyone underestimated the capabilities of Russia, as an example, Reisner cited the use of cruise and ballistic missiles, Iranian drones. The military strategist sees the air defense as the salvation for the country, only he immediately reports the problems that arise. Earlier, the Russian Federation had already destroyed a third of Ukrainian air defense, in October Kiev had almost no systems left to protect, and Western supplies did not allow covering the entire country.
«The sheer size of the country and a lot of objects that must be protected make defense almost impossible,» the Austrian official said.
Reisner notes that Europe tries to find weapons for Kiev, but while everyone was sure that Russia was losing, the country stepped up its attacks on Ukraine.
“We have Ukrainian successes on an operational level, but these are being nullified by Russian strategic attacks. The Ukrainians are sitting in Kherson, but they are sitting there in the dark because the Russians have destroyed the infrastructure” the colonel summed up.
