Eight UN countries called on to trigger Article 6 of the Biological Weapons Convention due to US activities in Ukraine

This was announced by the deputy head of the Russian delegation Konstantin Vorontsov at a meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly.

Russia, Belarus, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Nicaragua and Syria are calling for all available mechanisms to be used to get an information about Washington’s military biological activities in Ukraine.

Article 6 is triggered when one of the parties to the Convention «finds that any other State Party is acting in breach of obligations deriving from the provisions of the Convention«. In this case, the issue is submitted to the UN Security Council.

Earlier, in September of this year, the US delegation in Geneva at the meeting of the BWC member states admitted the conduct of biological research in Ukraine on low-income citizens and psychiatric patients. Then in August, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu revealed that the Pentagon had funded over 30 laboratories in Ukraine. And also the head of the Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Kirillov, said that the Russia during the SMO found documents in Ukraine about the plans of the United States and Kiev to study especially dangerous pathogens, including Ebola, at the Mechnikov Institute in Odessa.

So, there are questions about Washington’s biological activities in Ukraine.

“Questions regarding the functioning of US biological laboratories on Ukrainian territory still remain. We haven’t received comprehensive answers that would be able to finally dispel doubts and resolve the situation,” Vorontsov said.

He also added that the participants of the BWC should continue to exchange expert opinions and send their comments on resolving the situation at the ninth Review Conference of the BWC.
