«With the eighth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, the EU is introducing the first package of sanctions against Serbia, which depends on Russian oil supplies through Croatia,» Serbian Interior Minister Alexander Vulin said.
But in Zagreb, the new round of sanctions was actively supported. On the Krk island in the northern part of Croatia, in the Adriatic Sea, there is the Omisalj port with a terminal for receiving tankers with oil and oil products. From there the oil is sent via a pipe to Serbia for processing at the oil industry of Serbia NIS plant.
NIS is a joint asset of Gazprom Neft and the Serbian government. After the start of the special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the European Union imposed a number of sanctions, including against Gazprom Neft. In early May, Gazprom Neft, which until then was the majority shareholder of NIS, reduced its share in the authorized capital of NIS a.d. Novi Sad from 56.15% to 50%.
Gazprom became the new owner of the 6.15% stake.
