NATO countries are unanimous in their opinion that the alliance should not be involved into a military confrontation with Russia because of Ukraine. This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó after a meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Bucharest.
«We must adhere to the joint NATO decisions made earlier, that we are not a part of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and we must do everything possible to prevent a direct conflict between the alliance and Russia» he said at a press conference broadcast by the Hungarian TV channel M1.
As the head of Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted, «there is a consensus on the issue that the escalation of conflict must be prevented at any cost, that is, there should not be a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.»
The minister stressed that if the conflict spreads beyond the Ukrainian borders, the neighboring states will suffer first of all, and «not those countries that are thousands kilometers away.»
