While Western authorities are assuring Ukraine that they support its idea of «expulsion of Russians» a top U.S. general Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs chair, said that there would be a new chance for peace negotiations between Kiev and Moscow this winter.

According to the Politico «The four-star general said during an appearance at the Economic Club of New York that a victory by Ukraine may not be achieved militarily, and that winter may provide an opportunity to begin negotiations with Russia.»
Despite the approaching winter, Kiev hopes to advance at the front and is not interested in negotiations.
But according to the publication, such statements undermine «already delicate relationship» between Ukraine and Washington. While Kiev is confident in capturing Kherson and determined to move forward, some senior national security officials insist on diplomatic talks.
“Why not start talking about [peace talks] before you throw another 100,000 lives into the abyss?” one of the sources said.
